Patience and Healing

patienceIn the beginning of March I had my first surgery ever, a partial knee replacement. The experience in the hospital was excellent, considering I practice a holistic approach to healing, not healing pieces and parts. Once home, my husband helped me follow all the instructions. I went to Physical Therapy, did the exercises 3-4 times a day and took the meds for pain, consumed whole foods etc. Family, friends and healers assisted with specific essential oils, Reiki sessions, meals, and errands. My husband and I are so thankful for all of the help, just when we needed it. I truly appreciated everyone’s assistance, including the healing thoughts and prayers.

But soon I began having reactions to the medications and the complications continued from there. This developed into a challenge that was worse than when I broke my back in May 2010. This time, after knee surgery, there were days I truly did not know what would help, what could be done next and how I was going to make any progress. Talk about holding steady in the present moment and trying to manifest an intention!
My feelings were up and down and all over the map. Everything became a chore, driving myself to PT, making breakfast, getting dressed, etc., etc. Soon my feelings, especially the negative feelings were dictating what I would do and how I would act. I was caring for my body so well, I thought, with whole foods, supplements, and walking. As I struggled, I realized I had not meditated or written/journaled for weeks. Of course, when I was taking the necessary pain meds I did not care! Ha! Ha! As I began journaling my attitude changed, many perspectives shifted to open the doors to my healing. I am still not sure how the situation finally shifted.

But I believe:

Nothing ever goes away
until it teaches us what we need to know.
Pema Chodron

One thing I did learn is that healing takes patience and time. Miracles do happen but my body seemed on its own (slow) schedule until I began journaling again. I am still healing and fine tuning my health. I returned to work April 13th and was thrilled at the end of the day to be of service to clients again.
