Prevention is the Key!

It is important to know that in certain treatment plans, repeated use of antibiotics creates resistant strains of bacteria, and antibiotics become less effective with each recurrent UTI. This means the patient would need stronger antibiotics over the years. Repeated use of antibiotics can contribute to Candida bacteria being present not only in the bladder lining, but throughout the body.

An appropriate preventative approach assists the bladder tissues and lining to stay healthy. This approach includes lifestyle and diet changes, plus the use of herbals and vitamins, to maintain a balanced chemistry for healthy urinary tract tissues.

Here are some key elements to the preventative approach:

  • Drink plenty of filtered, clean water daily. Drink half of your weight in ounces of water, and be sure to drink more if you are outside in hot weather.
  • Avoid using diaphragms and spermicides for birth control. Spermicides change vaginal flora, which then contribute to changes in the bacteria. This can affect the bladder tissue lining.
  • If UTI’s are chronically recurring, it is necessary to rule out food sensitivities or intolerances.
  • Underlying health issues or stress may also contribute to frequent or chronic UTI’s.
