Thinking about health? What about your brain?

I recently read a very interesting book that I recommend you read. The book is, “Grain Brain,” by Dr. David Perlmutter, MD, neurologist. Have you tried to stop eating gluten? Yes, I mean completely. The conclusive research about brain health (or unhealth) specifically supports the damage to the brain from carbohydrates and grains, especially gluten, as we age. I have heard Dr. Perlmutter, speak several times at the Integrative Medicine Conference about brain health. But his recent book “Grain Brain” really puts it all together with simply explained research, the nutrition problems in our culture, our cultural food intake, a new food plan, new recipes and much more. For example: MRIs document that people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s have brains smaller than others their age. Dr. Perlmutter does an excellent job explaining the importance of a low carbohydrate food plan and high fats to nourish the brain. Fats don’t make us fat/obese, carbohydrates do. Fats are brain food. In an interview with Dr. Perlmutter, he was asked, “Please share your main idea regarding the side effects of carbohydrates and glucose on the brain.” You can read his answer, published in the journal, Alternative and Complementary Therapies, by clicking here:  Perlmutters_Response

I strongly recommend everyone stop eating gluten/grains for the benefits of your long term health. You can feel so great by having approximately 60 grams of carbs a day, especially, no sugar, non-grain carbs. There are many more details and suggestions in the book “Grain Brain”, available in hardback or on your kindle. Need help planning your gluten or carb-free food plan?
